I recently had the privilege of attending the IIHF Annual Congress in the picturesque city of Prague in May 2024. As the founder and president of Hockey Algeria, it was an honor to represent our nation on this esteemed international platform. The congress was impeccably organized by the IIHF, providing a perfect blend of professional networking, exhilarating ice hockey action, and the opportunity to explore the beautiful city of Prague.

Networking and Building Connections

One of the highlights of the congress was the opportunity to network with representatives from various IIHF member nations. The shared passion for ice hockey created an immediate bond, and I was able to discuss potential collaborations and exchange ideas with delegates from all over the world. These interactions are invaluable as we continue to develop and promote ice hockey in Algeria.

Experiencing World-Class Ice Hockey

The congress coincided with the IIHF World Championships, and I was fortunate enough to witness some thrilling games, including Canada vs. Switzerland and Canada vs. Sweden. Watching current NHL stars live in action was an unforgettable experience. Connor Bedard, a rising star, impressed everyone with his skill and poise on the ice, while Roman Josi’s performance left a lasting impression on me. These games were a testament to the high level of talent and competition in international ice hockey.

Memorable Interactions with Players

Staying in the same hotel as the players added a unique dimension to the congress. I had the chance to interact with some of them in a more relaxed setting. One morning, I found myself serving scrambled eggs alongside Brady Tkachuk. Another memorable encounter was sharing a lift with the shy but immensely talented Connor Bedard. These moments of camaraderie are what make the ice hockey community so special.

A Historic Meeting for African Ice Hockey

A landmark event during the congress was the first-ever meeting of IIHF African member nations. This gathering was a significant step forward in the development of ice hockey on our continent. We discussed the exciting possibility of hosting an African Nations Cup in 2025, with plans to make it an annual event thereafter. This initiative promises to elevate the profile of ice hockey in Africa and provide our players with more opportunities to compete at an international level.

Exploring the Beauty of Prague

Aside from the congress and hockey games, I took some time to explore the enchanting city of Prague. Its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture made every moment in the city memorable. Whether it was walking across the iconic Charles Bridge, exploring the majestic Prague Castle, or simply enjoying the local cuisine, Prague left an indelible mark on me.

Looking Ahead

The IIHF Annual Congress 2024 in Prague was a resounding success and a pivotal moment for Hockey Algeria. The experiences and connections made during this congress will undoubtedly contribute to the growth of ice hockey in our nation. I am excited about the future of our sport in Algeria and the potential collaborations with other IIHF member nations.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the IIHF for organizing such a remarkable event and to all the delegates and players who made it memorable. Together, we are shaping the future of ice hockey, not just in Algeria, but across the globe.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to develop and promote ice hockey in Algeria.
